ˇ@Parliamentary Library has three sections to fulfill the major functions for retrieval of legislative information, collection of legal and political resources, compilation of law cases, law-making materials for legislators as well as reporting current news and knowledge. Legislators, policy makers and related government units can therefore obtain high quality information service through this comprehensive network.
ˇ@The Functions of The First Section: (1) Selection & acquisition of media & library collectionsˇF(2) Inventory control, classification and cataloging of library collectionsˇF(3) Circulation and statistics of library collectionsˇF(4) Development, utilization and sharing of bibliographic resourcesˇF(5) Data analysis and maintenance of library automation systemˇF(6) Data analysis and maintenance of periodical literature text systemˇF(7) Collection and maintenance of government policy reports & budgetary reportsˇF(8) Documentation and publication of library-related materials.
ˇ@Services which are open to public include: circulation of books, periodicals, policy reports, government budgetary reports, early governmental publications, journals published both locally and abroad; self-helped library loan system; photocopying and purchasing of publications. The classification of all books ranges from law, politics and social sciences to other related subjects. The resources are acquired through subscription, donation and purchase from library decisions or through recommendations by legislators and staff. Library collections are being updated and expanded continuously.
ˇ@The Functions of the Second Section: (1) News data collecting, metadata processing, filing and reference services of daily news information; (2) Data analysis and maintenance of Legislative Yuan news system; (3) Reference counseling service of news knowledge management for each memberˇ¦s office; (4) Electronic publication of Legislative Review Index; (5) Legislative related or topic specific information service; (6) News -related publication, etc.
ˇ@Services open to public include: daily news reference counseling service, daily news reading service, news material compilation service and the searching of Legislative Yuan news system. The Chinese Legislative News Review Series collects all the news articles, messages, and law reviews on bill enactment, meetings, and policies under a current topic for the reference. In addition, the Legislative Yuan news system not only access on-line search for the most updated information on legislation and meetings, it also provides profiles and e-mail addresses of all legislators and their assistants. The personalized database according to the parliamentary working need is available anytime thru the Internet. The system serves news on demand as well.
ˇ@The Functions of the Third Section: (1) Multi-subject Legislative Literature Service; (2) Multi-media & Materials Service; (3) Services on legislative references and inquiries; (4) Research & Development of the Database Systems; (5) Promotion & utilization of the website library of Parliamentary Library; (6) Compilation and translation of law and politics related materials; (7) Inter-library Cooperation & Interchanges; (8) Data analysis and maintenance of Legislative Information Systems covering such items as full text, legislative history, interpellation and answers, and index to parliamentary proceedings, etc.
ˇ@The services open to public include: Internet application of the PL's website library, the interpellation record retrievals of legislators, searching of the law & regulation systems, reading service of the Legislative Yuan gazettes, access of online database systems worldwide including the GLIN system, introducing international legislative trends, offering legislative CD-ROMs and microform services, as well as the most important legislative reference services.
